Frequently Asked Questions

Has GenreCon moved online?

Yes. GenreCon 2022 is now a fully online event. We are disappointed that we don’t get to celebrate GenreCon in person this February but our priority in running the event is ensuring everyone’s health and safety. We don’t come to this decision lightly - and we don’t want the disappointment to last long, as we’re still eager to deliver the fantastic conference we have planned, now fully online.

What’s happening with the Murder Mystery Dinner?

Our sold out Murder Mystery Dinner is being rescheduled to later in the year. All ticket holders will be notified of the new date.

What do I get with my All-Access Pass?

Our new GenreCon 2022 All-Access Pass will get you into all workshops, seminars, panels and events across the Saturday and Sunday of the GenreCon weekend. There will also be opportunities to connect with other attendees and presenters (more on this shortly). Sessions will be recorded and available for All-Access Pass-holders to replay for a limited time, so you can catch up all on the sessions you weren’t able to see live.

Are there pitch opportunities at GenreCon 2022?

GenreCon 2022 is proud to provide our writers with the opportunity to pitch their work to leading Australian publishers and agents. When allocations open on 12 January, all ticketholders will have the opportunity to request a pitch - first come, first served. After that we will match you with one of our partner publishers and agents. Pitch sessions will be run on the last day of GenreCon and run like a speed dating session. You will receive your own very special pitch schedule outlining the when, the where, and the who - and our fantastic team will be on hand to ensure the event runs smoothly.

I loved my GenreCon 2021 What’s In The Box package - will there be one this year?

YOU KNOW IT! We’re still recovering from the wine and cookies in the last one. There’ll be a limited number so you’ll want to get in quick. Sold separately as an Add-on, to ticketholders only. Keep an eye out.

Are there volunteering opportunities at GenreCon 2022?

GenreCon is a rich and vibrant event thanks to our amazing volunteers. Our team are on the lookout for talented and eager volunteers that can help us with GenreCon 2022! Training will be offered as we get closer to the event. If you would like to be part of the magic behind the scenes please email your interest to genrecon@qldwriters.org.au or get in touch using the form.

I exclusively write *your genre here* – is GenreCon for me?

Love romance, but horror’s not your vibe? Into high-fantasy but can’t stand sci-fi? Don’t worry – GenreCon 2022 includes a big mixture of craft-based sessions. You’ll be fine. Trust us!

Regardless of your genre leanings, this convention is your chance to hear from industry professionals, discover and mingle with your tribe, and participate in special writing events.
